Anambra to partner statisticians on research methodology

NIGERIAN Statistical Association has said it would partner Anambra State Government in tackling research methodology challenges to evolve vibrant economic planning system.

President of the association, Sidney Onyeagu, said this during the 42nd Annual Conference of the association, held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Auditorium, Awka, with theme, ‘Statistics For Economic Recovery, Growth And Sustainability’.

Prof. Onyeagu described the theme as apt, stressing that statistics could be applied to ensure efficient and effective economic planning system in the state.

Prof. Onyeagu said they were planning to introduce statistics as a course of study in all secondary schools across the nation, to lay good foundation for students to be attuned to rudiments of the course.

“My promise of making statistics a subject of study in secondary schools is on course, as most of the text books for teaching and learning of statistics in secondary schools are now available.

In his speech, Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Joseph Ahaneku, said without statistics, planning and budgeting in states and institutions could not be successfully achieved.

Represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Charles Esimone, he said that statistics should be considered seriously in every institutions or organisations because of its importance in all spheres of human endeavours.

He appealed to the association to help in elevating Nigeria’s economy to meet with the rest of the world.

The event also featured awards of fellowship into the Nigerian Statistical Association to three outstanding members.
