Govt urges residents of flooded areas to vacate

IN VIEW of the raging flood water threatening to overrun some communities in four local government areas of Anambra State, government has renewed its directive to all residents within the coastal areas in the affected LGAs to immediately vacate their places for safety of their lives and properties.

The affected LGAs were; Ogbaru, Ayamelum, Anambra West and Anambra East.

A release signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C Don Adinuba, stated that forecast by relevant agencies that these places will experience very high levels of rainfall resulting in dangerous floods is coming to pass.

The release further said that state government has made arrangements for the effective and efficient evacuation of residents of these local government areas to relocate them to designated holding centres which have been provided with sanitary facilities, water boreholes, beds, cooking utensils and foodstuffs.

According to the release, a number of water ambulances and other marine transport vehicles are on stand-by and all emergency services, including the Nigerian Navy, the Army, Police and  Fire Service as well as the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency, have been well mobilised.

Government thereby, advised residents of the affected areas to move immediately to avoid needless dangers in the face of imminent threat to life and property.

However, Anambra State Government calls on humanitarian and donor agencies, philanthropists and Non–Governmental Organizations to assist in any way they deem fit to enable the people of Anambra State grapple with the current severe challenges of flooding.
