Ahaneku tasks lecturers on mentorship

VICE chancellor, Nnamdi Azikewe University (UNIZIK), Professor Joseph .E. Ahaneku ,has urged professors and lecturers to be true mentors and role models to their students.

Ahaneku made these call at the 2018 postgraduate research workshop held on Monday at the university auditorium.
The workshop, which had in attendance professors and lecturers from different higher institutions was themed: Deepening Research Competence For Effective Scholarship.

“There is need to reequip our professors and lecturers through given them exposure in areas they need to improve on. These will make the students they are mentoring to believe them. It is a digital age and technology has taking over and we have to adapt to the system and environment.

On the part of supervision, the VC tasked professors and lecturers to be part of the process through making sure that the students make proper research, bring out the best in your students. There should be discipline, time and interest, bounding”
“Supervisors should introduce ideas to their students. Listen to them, guide them because these are the things you will be remembered for when you are gone and that is the best legacy.

“Our desire is to continue to showcase our ability. It is not enough to say you are a professor and there is nothing to show for it. We should have those who will take over our workshops, offices, people that will continue to talk about us”, he concluded

Sub-Dean ,Faculty of Law Postgraduate UNIZIK, Emmanuel Obidimma, on his part, added ,every lecturer, apart from lecturing, is supposed to be a mentor through guiding, assisting them to come out in flying colours and keeping them focused.
