20 Indian doctors arrive in Awka for medical mission

NO fewer than 20 Indian doctors have arrived in Awka on a 10-day medicare mission to Anambra State, under the auspices of Rotary Club, District 1942 Awka.

While in Anambra, the team would be based at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka from where they will undertake consultancies and treatment of all kinds of ailment and surgeries.

Speaking during a reception in honour of the team at Finotel Hotel, Awka, a former District Governor of the Club, Emma Odekpe, said that the initiative commenced in 2016.

Other speakers include Commissioner for Diaspora, Local Art, Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Sally Mbanefo and Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Dr Basil Nwankwo who commended the delegation for choosing Anambra for their medical tourism, adding that the state would spare no effort to derive maximum benefits to the health sector.

Making his own contribution, Commission for information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba, used the opportunity to announce that Anambra has for long been desirous of forging medical co-operation with India, adding that the state will do all that is necessary for continuous partnership with the country.

“The Rotary Club District 1942, may have inadvertently actualised the wish of Anambra State Government to open an avenue through which a fruitful collaboration, for such a massive project to be actualised. It is the desire of the Governor of Anambra State under, Chief Willie Obiano to touch humanity, by providing good health services at minimal cost to the very poor among us. This mission will do just that by attending to people who will ordinarily not be able to access your services free of charge.

Your country has been able to kick out endemic scourge like polio in spite of the massive size of your country. We need the strategy that you adopted to get there,” Adinuba stated.
