Anambra State Government has urged all contractors, especially those handling road projects in the state, to go back to their different sites since the rainy season is over.

The Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ifejiofor, gave the directive during a separate meeting with contractors, consultants, engineer’s representatives and management of the ministry at the conference hall of Ministry of Works, Awka.

Ifejiofor acknowledged the fact that work slowed down on road construction because of the rainy season, explaining that now that the rains were over, there would be no further reasons massive construction of roads would not start in a few days.

He said that because of the heavy rain and flooding, the contractors will have so much work to do. He urged them to put up the best of performance to guarantee further business dealings, while maintaining that shoddy jobs would not be tolerated and that the administration of Gov. Willie Obiano will not tolerate incompetence of any sort even as outstanding contractual obligations and issues are being addressed and honoured.

The commissioner, in a separate address to the consultants and the engineer’s representatives enjoined them to be alive to their responsibilities to avoid lapses.

He directed that henceforth, every design must follow an assessment template from the state road design committee. He asked them to work closely with the engineer’s representatives who are the representative of the state government to ensure close supervision of roads.

Speaking on behalf of other contractors, Igwe Ben Emeka, the CEO of New Idea Construction Company, assured that they would work hard and to specifications and meet the expectations of the government and people of the state.
