NEW General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 82 Division of Nigerian Army, Major-General Emmanuel Kabuk, has assured Journalists that his administration will maintain the existing good relationship between the Army and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state.

Major –General Kabuk, who made the promise when the state executive council of the union, led by its chairman, Comrade Rex Arum, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Enugu, said that the military and the press were partners in progress both in peace and war times, explaining that one cannot do without the other.

He described the visit as a further consolidation of the good relationship built over the years between the two professional bodies by his predecessors and that of the NUJ.

The GOC, who promised to run an open administration advised journalists to avail themselves of the existing relationship to cross-check their stories from his office before going to the press, stressing that only investigative Journalism can make Journalists in the country true professionals.

“I urge you, Gentlemen of The Press, to always cross-check your information before publishing. Like I promised you earlier, my office is always open to the press for any information they may require on any issue that concerns the military.

He promised to review the water project embarked upon by his predecessor and assured that the neighbouring communities will benefit from it.

The GOC revealed that the army will launch Operation Python Dance III to reduce criminalities during the Christmas festivities. The launch, he revealed further, will take place in the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.

Earlier during the visit, Comrade Arum had told the GOC that NUJ in the state had in the past enjoyed good relationship with the army and asked him to sustain the tempo.

While extolling the roles the army had played in maintaining the territorial integrity of the country, Comrade Arum charged the GOC to use his wealth of experience to work in Enugu. He therefore assured him of  total supports of Journalists in Enugu to make his tenure very successful.
