NATIONAL Pension Commission charged with the regulation and supervision of pension matters in Nigeria, recently paid a courtesy visit to Government House Awka, to encourage and convince state government to embrace the contributory pension scheme.

The delegation was ably led by the Head of Operations, National Pension Commission, Mr. Dan Ndackson, who stated that the pension reform globally is unidirectional, since they migrate from a defined pension scheme to a contributory pension scheme.
“In order to attain a successful pension scheme, we must embrace the contributory pension scheme, because it is safe, sustainable and very beneficial to the government who derives immediate benefit, than to an employee who derives a long term benefit” Ndackson said.

He also commended the fact that Anambra keyed into this project, and said that his team has come into the state with a wealth of experience that Anambra can leverage on, to avoid making the same mistakes other states made in the past.

Responding, the deputy governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke, who welcomed the delegation into the state, said the pension scheme was worthwhile, and saves the state some money. He also expressed delight on the assurance of safety guaranteed on the investment. “The governor has made effort in contributing to the scheme.
