Govt to check Amawbia gully erosion site

ANAMBRA State Government has commenced in earnest construction work on a 200metres long and 20metres depth gully erosion site at Oye Abba Ezimezi, Amawbia In Awka capital territory and seat of the Governor’s lodge.

The project costing about N57million was awarded to Kamag and company, under the auspices of the state Ministry of Environment, Beatification and Ecology.

Conducting National Light round the project site, Chief Executive officer of the construction firm, Goddy Maduka, explained that the company was mobilized to site in 2017 when the depth of the gully was 12 meters , adding that because of continuous rains and consequent floods, the depth has expanded to 20metres.

He said his company had to embark on the project despite the rains to salvage the multi-million naira village hall under construction and save buildings along the gully site from immanent collapse.

Maduka explained that so far, tons of tippers of laterite had been procured to sandfill the gully since October/ November but were being washed away by flood whenever it rains.

He assured that despite the odds, the project will be completed on record time of six months given by the state government.
Also speaking, Mr. Jeft Ogbalu, one of the directors of the company, while thanking the state governort, Chief Willie Obiano for finding the company worthy for job assured that they would meet the target of six momths given for the job to be delivered.

President General of Amawbia Town Union ,Chris Nwoye expressed gratitude to Governor Obiano for embarking on the gully erosion project, a menace that had threatened many building in the Village.

Chairman of Ezimezi Village Development Union, Mr. Ejike Chiedozie expressed immense gratitude to the governor for salvaging the villiage from threat of flood erosion .
He assured the continued confidence of the villiage to the administration of Governor Willie Obiano.
