Obiano seeks legacies to re-jig Anambra devp plan

GOV. Willie Obiano has reiterated his administration’s commitment to rolling out more economic templates to not only sustain the current socio-economic development of Anambra State, but also bequeath them as lasting legacies, with total devotion to boosting human capital and intellectual ingenuity of ndi Anambra.

The governor stated this in Awka on Monday, while speaking at a ceremony to mark official unveiling of Anambra Compendium, with crème de la crème of Anambra social, economic and political circles, as well as members of the international community in attendance, adding that another volume of the book would be published before end of his second term.

Prefacing how his administration would set out realising his campaign promises, Obiano said that economic models that would shape coming parametres of development had been tested and proved in some emerging global economies, predicting that Anambra will turn up with similar result.

In his overview of the unveiled book, Gov Obiano analysed  it as “a comprehensive manual on everything Anambra,” which  he  equally described as “a state with a rich culture, known for her great myths, giant strides and creative, hardworking and innovative people with history as compelling as diverse,”

extolling “ndi Anambra for continually showing the light in many aspects of life as God’s  richly endowed the people of the state with rich human and material resources, with Dr. Philip Emeagwali from Onitsha, Late Michael Iwene Tansi from Aguleri, Mr. Emmanuel Okala an iconic goal keeper in Nigerian history as forerunners of Anambra’s glorious narrative.”

Similarly, Deputy Governor Nkem Okeke described Anambra Compendium as the first very serious effort to identify and document Anambra’s universal excellence in one attractive package, adding that the book relieves the future today.

“Its production took a long period of painstaking planning and rigorous research, to assemble all the important documents that offers a deep insight into the greatness of our beloved state. The real value of Anambra compendium lies in the fact that it is not all about people, but about the historical sight and cultural heritage of Anambra state.

We are passing a message to generations yet unborn, that they are descendants of the illustrious prodigies and must follow the literary part of excellence that has been laid up for them” he said.

Also in his presentation, Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi, who was the book reviewer, expressed satisfaction with what he called “a thrilling research work that gave birth to the book,” describing it as “spectacular with room for improvement in the subsequent publications.”

Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Emeka Okonkwo, explained that Anambra Compendium was a great piece of artwork to challenge the depth of the intellectual ingenuity, describing the book as a dictionary documentation of Anambra State, her indefatigable people, rich cultural heritage, beautiful environments and rich religious as well as pursuit for educational excellence.

It will be recalled that the 800-page history photo book spotlights the history and cultural heritage, as well as traditional institutions of Anambra people and their lifestyle in a concise form, with a cross section of the audience attributing its beauty to its depth and dimensions of beautiful photographic images, educative journey across Anambra communities in their glorious splendor which, according to them, makes reading it an endless fun.

A minute silence was observed for late Mr. Randie Chima, who was the director of photography on the Anambra Compendium project before his death on August 11.
