SOUTH East Governors’ Forum (SEGF) has organised 2-day training for their Open Government Partnership (OGP) Desk Officers at Finotel Hotel, Awka.

Director-General, South East Governors’ Forum, Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, while, welcoming the OGP desk officers from the five states in the South East, said, “The OGP initiative is a multi-stakeholder alliance that brings together government and civil society leaders to create and implement action plans that will make governments more inclusive, responsive and accountable.”

Prof. Ortuanya commended the South East State Governments for their promptness toward embracing the initiative.

He underscored the importance and value that the governors attach to issues of transparency and accountability in governance.

“South East States have recorded significant milestones in their OGP journeys. Every state represented in this room has developed action plans and set up steering committees that are fully compliant with the co-creation principle of the OGP initiative,” Prof. Ortuanya added.

He reminded the desk officers that the SEGF is at the implementation stage and which was why they were being trained.

The DG re-assured that the training would help them to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of any commitment in their states’ action plans that relates to their MDA.

He explained that the training would deepen their understanding of OGP initiative, provide them with an over view responsibility of identifying specific activities needed by their MDAs for state action plan.

Mr. Eme Orji Kalu, who spoke on behalf of other participants, commended the SEGF for the training assuring that they would make judicious use of what they learnt.

Department for International Development (DFID) and the Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) were commended for their partnership with the forum and for their support in organising the event.
