Large turnout for Maternal, Newborn, Child Health Week

THE on-going second round of Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week has recorded huge turnout in Anambra.

The programme attracted pregnant women, nursing mothers, children and caregivers at designated centres across the state  and health care providers arrived the venue on time at different venues.

According to the wife of the governor Mrs Eberechukwu Obiano the week’s aim is to contribute towards improving the health status of Nigerian women and children by increasing coverage of key maternal, newborn and child health interventions by 50 percent of the current indices by 2020.

Intervention given ranges from nutrition screening, mid upper Arm Circumference, Vitamin A supplementation, birth registration, family planning, distribution of long lasting insecticidal treated nets, deworming, health education, sensitization on key household practices among other life saving interventions.

Bringing to the fore effective and affordable health care system which governor Obiano emphasized as paramount to the mission and vision of his administration and that his government established the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency to bring primary health under one roof for efficiency, noting that his administration has equally renovated and equipped 60 primary health centres across the state for optimal performance.

Commending the governor, the President General, Ukwulu Town Union, Dunukofia LGA, Chief Walter Okafor eulogised Governor Obiano for his sterling performance in all sectors of the state economy and urged women, pregnant mothers and care givers to utilize the week to benefit from the services it renders.
