THE basic education model introduced in Anambra State by Governor Willie Obiano since the inception of his administration has been applauded as “result-oriented and child-friendly.”

Anambra State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Sunday Ajayi, gave the mark in a speech he delivered at FRSC headquarters in Awka on Tuesday to open the grand finale of a quiz competition organised by the Commission for Anambra secondary schools, stating that Governor Obiano’s policies have taken the sector to a higher notch.

Explaining the event as its second edition, Ajayi said preliminary competitions in the quiz led to emergence of three schools which slugged it out at zonal levels leading up to the grand finale.

According to Ajayi, the governor’s giant strides in basic education has done tremendously well in revamping the sector, because teachers are better motivated with prompt salaries and students provided with more learning incentives as well as cutting edge teaching facilities.

Ajayi also noted that part of Governor Obiano’s innovation in basic education that turned the sector around was his special welfare scheme for teachers of mathematics and core science subjects as well as teachers posted to riverine and rural areas, adding that by this, teachers no longer grumble.

Speaking further, the sector commander disclosed that engagement of stakeholders was of utmost concern to FRSC, stressing that the quiz competition was not only in line with this policy but also meant to catch and indoctrinate school pupils with road safety practices while they are still young. This, he said, explained why FRSC has been running road safety clubs, and youth safety education in schools.
