IT was a mixture of tears and joy as obsequies climax and tributes poured in for the late Igwe Peter Ezenwa of Oba, Idemili South LGA in Anambra State, who embarked on his last journey last week.
Idemili South Council boss, Don Unachukwu, All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA) Party stalwarts, traditional rulers and many others were all in attendance to commiserate with the family . In his tribute, Unachukwu described the former patron of Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Peter Ezenwa, as a good man, “who lives even in death’.
“Eze Okpoko Oba was a good man, a mentor and great inspiration to many. He was a first class Igwe. His death is a monumental loss to us in Idemili South and beyond”
“ The APGA party chairman, Idemili South, Felix Obunadike, also encouraged the family to bear the loss, saying that the exit of the colossus was a loss to the party.
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) Chairman, Idemili South, Lolo Anyanwu Juliana, in her tribute, described Igwe Ezenwa as a quintessential figure who was worthy of emulation.
The Supervisory Councilor, Health and council representative, Oba Ward II, Mmaduabum Edozie, bemoaned the demise of Eze Okpoko, saying that it may take years for Oba to produce a man of his caliber.
“Eze Okpoko is a warrior that will never allow what is the entitlement of Oba people to elude us. He was so influential at both federal and state levels,” said Mmaduabum
Moreover, the duo of Igwe Emeka Iluno of Ifitedunu and Igwe Nich Obi of Nnobi, the Chairman Anambra Central and Idemili South Council of Traditional Rulers, respectively described Ezenwa as a revered colleague and an honourable man.
Igwe Gerald Mbamalu ofOjoto was also in attendance to pay his last respect to the late Eze Okpoko as a man of great charisma, intelligence whose children should learn from his legacies.
Ichie Uruokokwu village, Oba, Dr. Felix Uzo described Igwe Ezenwa as a model to other traditional rulers who does not emphasize on money to confer chieftaincy title but character of the person.
CEO, Rogenny Tourist Village,Oba, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka , described Igwe Ezenwa as a man of foresight whose idea brought development to the entire south east.
Responding to the Idemili South entourage, the duo of Prince Noel Ezenwa and Prince Henry Ezenwa,the Regent Oba Community and former chairman IDSLGA, respectively, thanked the group for finding time to identify with them.
In attendance to the burial ceremony were dignities from all over the country, including Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, former governors of Anambra , Chief Peter Obi, Chief Chris Ngige, both former and serving senators, legislative members of the federal and state House.
