GOVERNOR Willie Obiano of Anambra State has said that construction work on the International Conference Centre will be completed next year.

The governor said the contractor handling the project, Shantai Company Ltd. had assured him of completion of work on the world-class edifice by December, 2019.

Gov. Obiano, who was speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony of the project at Agu-Awka, said the model for the 10,000 sitting capacity centre was copied from Dubai.

While describing the project as unique, he said when completed, it would rank among the best conference centres in the south east region.

Gov. Obiano, who extolled the contractor for the quality and progress of work at the site, said the engineering skills being applied on the project would make the project to stand the test of time.

According to him, this project is a beautiful one and the height alone, is very imposing.

“It is a landmark project, with acoustic treatment to minimise echo. The contractor has been mobilised to deliver job in 12 months.”

Earlier in his address, Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Emeka Ezenwanne, said the project was conceived and designed to serve as a rallying point for events and to boost tourism in the state.

He commended Gov. Obiano for initiating the project, which he said, would be a lasting legacy for the people of the state.

Flagging-off the project, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka  Achebe, prayed for timely completion of the project to serve the purpose for which it was meant.
