Farmer presents huge yam to commissioner

A farmer in Anaocha Local Government Area, Chigozie Anene, has presented a gigantic yam tuber he harvested from his farm to the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanisation, Processing and Export, Afam Mbanefo at the ADP complex, Awka.

Introducing Mr. Anene to the commissioner, Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Obioma Mbanefo, said he met the farmer during the 2018 flag-off of the Anambra State Dry Season Farming, cum Trade Fair in Onitsha, where he displayed his produce.

Commending the farmer, Mbanefo promised to link Mr. Anene to a group who are into yam export activity, adding that through the Director of Agriculture in Anaocha Local Government Area, Leticia Agubata, the ministry will provide him with organic fertilizer and yam seedlings as a way of encouraging him.

Mr. Anene, who is also in cassava and cocoyam cultivation, said he harvested the yam known as Adaka in October and  thanked the commissioner while pleading for government support in area of provision of fertilizer and other farm implements to improve his efforts.

He added that he has trained several farmers and has cultivated yams bigger than this present one.
