Four remanded in prison over murder of varsity student

FOUR murder suspects have been remanded in prison custody by an Asaba Magistrate Court over their role in the alleged murder of a 300 level Mass Communication student of Delta State University, Abraka, Elozino Ogege.

The accused     were; Onoriode 23, Nwosisi 34, Desmond 32 and Ojokojo 63 while the 5th accused Odiri 16 was sent to remand home Sapele by Chief Magistrate, Helen Okonkwo, even as she referred the case file to the state Attorney – General and Commissioner for Justice for advice before adjourning the case to December 31.

According to the charge sheet CMA/509C/2018, the accused persons were facing eight count charges bordering on conspiracy, kidnaping, armed  robbery, unlawful murder, possession of offensive weapons and belonging to unlawful society.

Counsel to the deceased family, Iche Ifenedo, who was contracted by a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Isoko, Advancement Network to prosecute the case, expressed satisfaction with the proceeding, stressing that due process has been followed.

He noted that with the nature of the charges, they all carry capital punishment which is death penalty.
