GOVERNOR Willie Obiano of Anambra State has awarded the construction of internal roads and the perimeter fencing of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.
He also said the proposal to increase the retirement age of non teaching college staff to 65 years may soon be considered.
Governor Obiano made the pronouncement recently at Nsugbe through the Commissioner for Tertiary& Science Education, Prof. Theresa Obiekezie, during the 19th Convocation Ceremony of Nwafor Orizu College of Education.
According to her “His Excellency has awarded contracts to build the internal roads of this institution at Nsugbe .So this season, heavy construction equipments will move into the school to commence working in ernest”
“On reports from the provost saying that neighbors were encroaching into the school premises, just yesterday, His Excellency has considered awarding the construction of perimeter fencing of the entire institution”
Prof Obiekezie assured the management and staff of the college that Governor Obiano has set up a process to study the provost’s application on increasing the retirement age of non teaching staff to 65 years.
She said that the governor may likely approve the proposal at the end of the day, urging the staff and unions to put in more effort and work more in the interest of the institution.
Obiekezie appreciated the graduates for accepting to be trained as teachers who would train other pupils and students in the society.
Earlier in her address, the provost, Dr. Ifeyinwa Osegbo, applauded the contributions of Governor Obiano in the institution pleading with him to do more.
“We request cap in hand, for your Excellency to consider: the conversion of our college into a University of Education, building of hostels to reduce accommodation hardship, scholarship for our students, especially the indigent ones”, said Osegbo.
Dr. Osegbo said the new administration had in six months, constructed a SVTE office complex, lecture hall gradually approaching completion courtesy of TET fund, procurement of Hilux truck by Tet fun
Other achievements include holding of college conferences, seminars, workshop such as Google, zenith, which was made possible by the state government, the governing council, the entire staff and parents & guardians of the college students.
Dr. Osegbo charged the graduands not to forget the spirit of hard work that earned them their various certificates as they continues in their endeavors.
