2nd Niger Bridge: Contractor sets completion date for Feb, 2022

 THE 2nd Niger Bridge is to be completed by February 2022.

The Project Director of the firm handling the job, Mr Frederick Weiser disclosed this when Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State inspected ongoing work on the Ogbaru end of the bridge.

The contract for the construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge was abandoned over the years due to poor funding and failure to mobilize the contractor to site.

The bridge is 1.5 kilometres long with a 3 kilometer adjoining road from Delta State and another 7 kilometer road at the Anambra State end.

The project contract sum is N206 billion , while about 15% of the amount had been paid to the contractor.

Conducting Governor Willie Obiano around the site, the Project Director of the firm handling the job, Mr Fredrick Weiser explained that it was currently constructing beams and doing piling work on the bridge.

Mr Weiser noted that the biggest challenge the firm had before now was the the rising water level of River Niger which had receded.

He announced that the fderal government had paid over 30 billion naira advance to the firm, assuring that the job would be delivered in the next four years with continuous funding.

Governor Willie Obiano expressed happiness over the huge sums committed into the project by the Federal Government to ensure its completion.

Governor Obiano promised to invite President Muhammad Buhari to officially commence the construction work on the bridge.

The governor described the bridge as very important to the South East zone and the nation and appreciated the contractor for its zeal to complete the job with proper funding.
