Nawgu community healthcare upgraded to general hospital

ANAMBRA State Government has upgraded Comprehensive Health Centre, Nawgu, Dunukofia Local Government Area to a General Hospital.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, made the announcement during the inauguration of the community’s renovated Comprehensive Health Centre .

While extending government appreciation over the facelift given to the hospital, the commissioner commended the sponsors of the project, Mr and Mrs Jerome Nwokike, who were indigenes of the town.

He commended the family for their zeal in undertaking the renovation and urged them to continue in their effort to see that residents of the community enjoyed quality healthcare services.

Akabuike however assured that the hospital would be fully equipped with more nurses as well as posting of  resident doctor, who would attend to the health needs of people promptly .

The commissioner therefore  urged residents of the community to enrol vulnerable groups, who could not settle hospital bills into the State Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to access affordable healthcare services .

The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu, thanked Governor WillieObiano for the giant developmental strides in the state.

He appealed to the state government to assist the hospital in saving lives thereby making it useful to the community.

In their separate remarks, the President-General of the community, Mr Innocent Ikechebelu, and the philanthropist, Dr Jerome Nwokike, pleaded with the state government to provide the needed equipment and personnel for the hospital .

They unanimously concurred that it would enable the facility to function as a general hospital and requested that the new hospital be made a referral centre in the near future.
