Anambra State Housing Development Corporation Awka (ASHDC), has expressed shock at an ongoing communication mast construction at Ngozika Housing Estate, Iyiagu Layout, within the capital territory.

The  communication mast believed to have been approved by Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), and presently under construction has drawn stiff criticism from ASHDC, as the agency believes the project runs short of compliance with environmental regulations and standard.

In a written statement issued by ASHDC, signed by the HOD, planning, D.C. Osuigwe, to ACTDA on December,21, 2018, and made available to National Light, the state Housing Development Agency frowns at the construction of communication mast at Road 17, Ngozika Housing Estate, Awka, without recourse to diligent observance of environmental regulations.

According to the statement, “the mast was located right inside the drainage channel of the estate”. The agency insists that the said project location disregards required minimum setback of 15 meters from nearby residential buildings within the area; thereby constituting potential danger to the environment and her inhabitants.

The housing development corporation insists that the project approval be withdrawn and further work stopped forthwith to forestall any unforeseen danger.
