SENATOR Uche Ekwunife hails from Nri, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. She is vying for Senator in Anambra Central Senatorial District under the platform of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

She believes she is best qualified for the position. Hear her,”As a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I had been able to provide quality representation to my constituents in Anambra Central Senatorial District. Within the period I was at the Red Chambers, i was Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream and I made great input to the growth in the oil industry. I have served as a member of Finance, Works, Rulers and Business, Basic Education, Women Affairs, Legislative Agenda and Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions Committees.

Also, as the Chairman, House Committee on Environment where I displayed exemplary leadership and courage in tackling the nation’s environmental challenges. Through this platform, I  also attracted the attention of the Federal Government to the havoc and menace caused by erosion in different states of the federation which Anambra State is among in the list.

Again, during the 6th Assembly, I sat as Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts. I also worked in different Committees like Gas Resources, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Public Procurement, Legislative Budget and Research, Rural Development, Power and House Services, among others.

Before now, I had stood for election twice unsuccessful and was elected as a senator in 2005 for Anambra Central

Infact, there were over 100 senators elected in the 8th National Assembly but only six of us were women .

I  once contested for Governorship election in Anambra State and has been noted to be the best campaign ever to be witnessed by any woman in the Nation’s history”.

Speaking on what she has done for her constituents, she said,’ “I have put smiles on the faces of so many people especially the less privileged and the down trodden in the society. I have been able to provide succor to many families whose lives had touched positively in various ways. I have assisted over 107 women travelling overseas to explore business opportunities and have also sponsored many to Holy Pilgrimages’.

What matters in everything is to have good leadership qualities. And this has brought a lot of opportunities on my way. I was once a Board Member of Nigeria Film Corporation, and I made unparalleled contributions to the development and growth of the Nollywood industry. And have also worked as a Board member of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies.

As representative of Aniocha, Njikoka, Dunukofia Federal Constituency, I have attracted a lot of quality and developmental projects to all the communities I represent as well as delivering those projects in all cost without leaving any.

I have moved several well conceived motions and bills in the National Assembly, like immortalization of Professor Dora Akunyili, completion of Ziks Mausoleum, the motion on the erosion menace in Nanka, among others.
