MATRON, Divine Mercy Compassion Home Orphanage, Amawbia, Chizorom Ugwu has called on spirited Nigerians not to abandon the less privileged to fate. Rev. Sister Ugwu, stated this when the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, (PENGASSAN), Port-Harcourt Zone visited the orphanage.

“The society ought to assist the poor and needy. Our vision is to help ameliorate human conditions. What we do is to take care of the poor and less privilege in the society. This home took the step in doing this to make our society a better place. We don’t adopt children, but if a child comes for adoption, we won’t throw the child away, but our aim is care of orphans.”

The Reverend Sister said the home is sustained by charity, describing PENGASSAN visit as timely, at a time when renovation was going on in their premises. “Contributions from spirited Nigerians have made the renovation possible. As the head of the orphanage, I thought wise to be prudent with our meager resources. But we don’t starve ourselves, yet, squeeze out enough to renovate our main building which we want to make a two story building. We ensure nobody goes hungry because of this project.”

PENGASSAN President, Olabode Johnson, addressing the children as leaders of tomorrow, prayed that God would feed and take them to greater heights. Give them joy and long life. “For everyone that has contributed to this project, God will replenish you. Anything you do for these children, God will reward you. My prayer is that in terms of need, when you call unto God, He will answer you. And for the renovation going on in your main building we will contribute to that.”

Rev. Sister Ugwu appreciated PENGASSAN donations, noting that their job is to see that every child is happy and has a sense of belonging, besides, “we take care of mentally deranged mothers, motherless and neglected children and children whose parents abandoned them; take care of them until they are grown, she said.
