Former Rangers coach, Chukwuma Agbo passes on



FORMER coach of Nigerian cup champions Rangers, Chukwuma Agbo passed on in the late hours of Tuesday, has been informed.

Chukwuma Agbo who resigned his position as head coach of Nigeria National League (NNL) side Delta Forceat the end of the Super Eight Playoffs held in Aba last month died after a brief battle with illness.

Agbo was an assistant coach with Rangers when they won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title in 2016 and was said to have battled a liver-related disease in the past month before passing on late last night.

An honest and candid man he was, Agbo was known for his blunt answers to questions he is asked after games. He was made famous by a “Banana” comment he made after Rangers lost to Zesco in Zambia in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup and still told that his last team, Delta Force played worse in a game in Aba last month.

A former footballer who was born into a footballing family, Agbo during his playing career played notably for Stationery Stores and Iwuanyawu Nationale among other teams. Virtually all his siblings were prominent footballers in the country.

His brothers; Uche Agbo played for Enyimba and Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Emma Agbo played for Enyimba and was the league’s highest goalscorer with Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Nonso Agbo also played for Enyimba and Iwuanyawu Nationale while Emeka Agbo played for Enyimba.
The late Agbo was also an assistant coach with Nigeria’s Beach Soccer team the Sand Eagles few years back.
