Arsenal to land Monchi as director

ROMA have begun their search for a new director of football, as current chief, Monchi closes on a move to Arsenal.

Mirror Football revealed last week that the Spaniard has been offered a deal at the Emirates, which would see him reunite with Unai Emery.

The duo have a good relationship after a profitable spell working together at Sevilla, in which the Gunners boss led the Spanish side to three successive Europa League crowns earning him a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Gunners also looked at former star, Marc Overmars, currently in Situ at Ajax who are desperate to keep hold of the Dutchman, but the Roma chief is their No.1 target.

As such, the Giallorossi are now moving ahead with regards their search for a replacement.

According to multiple reports in Italy they are rapidly narrowing their list of candidates.

Inter sporting director, Piero Ausilio is one name in the frame, according to both Messaggero and Corriere dello Sport, while there are also suggestions that they could promote from within.

Francesco Totti, the club legend now working as a director, has been working closely with Monchi since hanging up his boots, and could be another potential replacement.

 

 

The technical director appointment is a big one for Arsenal, following recent upheaval at the club which saw head of recruitment Sven Mislintat quit, having been overlooked.
