Anambra’ll be first to pay Minimum Wage – Obiano

GOVERNOR Willie Obiano has given  assurance that Anambra State will be the first to implement the new national minimum wage when passed into law by the National Assembly.

Governor Obiano stated this while addressing members of the state work force at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka on Tuesday.

The state governor who enumerated some of the steps his administration has taken to improve the working condition of the workers solicited their support in the forth-coming state Houses of Assembly elections.

The governor reiterated that the welfare of the state work force has been paramount to his administration, stressing that such has been possible because the House of Assembly is made up of APGA members.

He explained that electing legislators from opposition parties would derail his welfare policies, especially the salaries, gratuities, and pensions of civil servants.

While declaring Friday work free day for workers to enable them prepare for Saturday’s election, Governor Obiano said that the minimum wage was over N1billion addition, saying that the state government has received report by the Labour Committee, but will commence its implementation to address workers’ grievances and agitations.

In his remarks, the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, described the Obiano administration as the best thing that ever happened to state, stating that the state needs three more years of peace and tranquility to record progress.

“This administration wants to leave a legacy. We want to continue with the developmental strides of Obiano’s administration. Voting APGA candidates into the state Assembly election this Saturday would ensure continuity. I urge you to vote en masse for APGA.

The state Head of Service, Harry Uduh, who spoke on behalf of the workers, expressed gratitude to the governor for elevating the status of the state since assuming office and assured of their unalloyed support.

In a vote of thanks, the state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr. Jerry Nnubia, thanked the governor for his unalloyed support towards the welfare of the workers in the state.

Civil servants from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies thronged the Secretariat to welcome the governor.
