UNDOUBTEDLY, education is the key to success in any human endeavor and it ensures rapid development of a state or nation. No wonder, the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano is profoundly committed to deliver a globally competitive education, hence his competitive educationproper funding of educational sector in the state.

As somebody who is greatly interested in education and one who did well during his time as a pupil,  Chief Obiano has a well designed educational plan for the state which ultimately resulted in enviable achievement for the state. The state has six educational zones; namely Onitsha, Aguata, Nnewi, Otuocha, Ogidi and Awka. He has done wonderfully well in the zone through development of infrastructures, improvement of welfare of teachers and total overhaul of management of the schools at all levels, particularly foundation level like primary and secondary schools.

Governor Wille Obiano’s administration last year was noted to have projected a total of N11.9billion for education across the following areas: World Bank Assisted State Education Programme and Intervention project ( SEPIP) =N1.5bn, while infrastructure and capacity improvement in state owned universities/ colleges and polytechnics in the state had over N3bn allocated to it.

Informed by this, the state, however has recorded a number of successes in education competition both nationally and internationally. It would be recalled that Five girls from Anambra state, namely Jessica Osita, Promise Nnalue, Nwabuaku Ossai, Adaeze Onuigbo and Vivian Okoye won gold trophy in Technovation challenge competition in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, USA. The students from Regina Pacies secondary school represented Nigeria and Africa at the competition that saw so many schools from different countries like USA, Spain, Turkey, China and Uzbekistan.

The students won the challenge with a mobile application called FD- Dectator which they developed to help tackle the menace of fake pharmaceutical products in Nigeria. The students were able to identify a program in their communities and solve them. Technovation is a program that offers the girls around the world opportunity to learn the programming skills. They were accorded presidential reception where the governor was commended for his immense achievement in education sector.

It is also worthy to mention that early last year, to be precise , January 18,2018, the Anambra contingent to the world Junior School Mock Debate held in Singapore presented to the executive council the trophy it won as the best team at the competition. The state contingent participated in the world debate where they did excellently well to the glory of God and Ndi Anambra.

Since inception of Chief WillieObiano as the governor, the state for the past four years plus has consistently led the West African Examination Council ( WAEC) National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board ( JAMB). Virtually all schools in Anambra state are controlled by missionaries hence improvement in behavior, character and learning of pupils and students. The policy of handover of schools to owners has been deepened and profoundly sustained by Obiano. The governor as a student in Christ the king’s college (CKC) Onitsha, one of the best secondary schools then did absolutely well and won awards and competitions. Of course, naturally, he should know what discipline and good nurtured habits mean to students. Despite the grave economic challenges in the country, Obiano has definitely pumped money in education sector and this nonetheless, has made education to have a pride of place in the scheme of things.

Remember Mrs Rose Nkemdilim Obi. Yes, she emerged the best teacher in the contest organised by Nigeria Breweries Plc in conjunction with Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund which she was given N2million cash prize. She is from Anambra state and in one of the secondary schools in the state. Recall that also, a team of speakers from public schools won the inter  Basic Debating competition beating their counterparts from 35 other states and the Federal capital Territory in a contest held at Abeokuta, Ogun State to mark the 55th Independence anniversary of Nigeria.

The upshot of this is that Chief Willie Obiano has undoubtedly demonstrated unequalled and immense commitment towards education sector in the state and through this, the state has come to be known worldwide and nationally as the best state as far as education is concerned, thereby increasing the number of students who come from other states and countries to learn in Anambra State.
