Anambra Assembly: Returning and out-going members

MANY pundits are already making forecast on the political ‘coloration’ of the on-coming Anambra State legislature. they urge caution and caution political sagacity in the approaching Seventh assembly of the Anambra State of Assembly to avoid the pitfalls of the outgoing one. The fact that some frontline members  will not be part of the next session also thrill the observers.

Thirteen legislators out of the present 30 will be part of the next law markers(7th assembly) namely: Onyebuchi Ofor (minority leader), member, representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Lawrence Ezeudu (Chief Whip), member, representing  Dunukofia Constituency, Beverly Nkemdiche (Deputy Chief Whip), member ,representing Onitsha South 2 Constituency, Uche Okafor, member, representing Ayamelum Constituency, Obinna Emeneka, member, representing Anambra East Constituency.

Others are: Nnamdi Okafor, member, representing Awka South 1 Constituency, Ezenwune Febian, member, representing Idemili South Constituency, Udemadu Chidi, member, representing Ihiala 1 constituency, Agbodike Pascal (Deputy Majorty Leader), member, representing Ihiala 2 Constituency, Timothy Ifedioramma, member, representing Njikoka 1 Constituency, Pete Ibida, member, representing Njikoka 2 Constituency, Somtochukwu Udeze, member, representing Ogbaru 2 Constituency and Ibuzor Edward, member, representing Onitsha North 2 Constituency.

Though she still contest the outcome of the polls, as things stand, Speaker of the House, Rita Maduagwu leads the list of the 16 present members who will bid fare well to the 6th Assembly, including late Patrick Aniuno, who died just days to the state Assembly polls.

Other high points expected to take place when the Seventh Assembly kicks off will be who will take up the new leadership of the house as the new speaker.

Political analysts have noted that the governor of the state and the leadership of the party can play significant roles in determining who will be the next speaker.

Pundits have also urged that the leadership of the party to endeavour to provide the required direction in order to avoid the challenges faced by the during whose tenure some aggrieved members of the house almost succeeded in impeaching the speaker.

A public analysts in the state who preferred to be anonymous however advised that whatever process that would be deployed, must be well managed to avoid any backlash.

According to him,” The lessons to be learnt from the leadership squabble of the 6th Assembly had been imbibed. It should be used to prevent the mistakes of the past.
