NOCEN matriculates 1,500 students, assures of govt support

Commissioner for Tertiary and Science Education,  Theresa Obiekezie and Provost, Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe (NOCEN),  Ifeyinwa Osegbo have assured new intakes of the institution of  Governor Obiano’s continued support.

They gave the assurance during the recent 38th National Certificate of Education (NCE) cum 22nd Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) matriculation ceremony at Nsugbe, Anambra East, Anambra State.

Prof. Obiekezie who represented Governor Obiano assured them of adequate security in Anambra State, saying that His Excellency would do anything to make the students comfortable in the ivory tower.

“His Excellency is happy you are admitted to this citadel of learning. Feel at home because Anambra State is the safest state for everything good you are doing”

“Governor Obiano would do everything to make sure you are comfortable here, the perimeter fencing and intra college roads construction are ongoing. He would provide other things as the need arise”, said Obiekezie.

Similary, the provost, Dr. Osegbo in her address, said that the college was part of the Nigerian society faced with lack of some basic amenities but assured the students of the governor’s continued support.

“The college has fair share of problems facing the Nigerian society like incessant power outage, shortage of water supply, inadequate infrastructure essential drugs among others. when these arise do not feel the authorities have neglected your welfare”

“Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State is there for us, attending to state and college matters. With his support, the college will continue to shine above all other institutions”. said Osegbo.

Dr. Osegbo further advised the students to shun violent demonstrations, cultism, examination malpractice and other social vices which could endanger life and property, urging them to choose dialogue when resolving issues.

She further called on private individuals and organizations to partner with the college on areas of financial assistance, hostel accommodation, etc in other to sustain the development of the college.

In his speech, the Vice chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Benjamin Ozumba ably represented by the Dean Faculty of Education, UNN, Prof Dominic Ngwoke encouraged the students to aim for academic excellence.

He reminded the new students  that UNN had earned enviable reputation for excellence over the years saying that UNN ranked among top 3 best Universities in Nigeria.

“Place the interest of the University above other considerations; make decisions guided by honesty, truth, equity and justice. Exhibit highest standard of ethical and moral values” said Prof Ozumba.

Highlights of the occasion was the declaration/administration of oath of loyalty; formal admission to membership of the college/university, matriculation and cultural songs, group and individual photographs.
