MEMBER, representing Ihiala 1 Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chidi Livinus Udemadu has said that despite the negative impression most people have about politicians, there are still good and sincere ones in Anambra and Nigeria.

Udemadu, who was re-elected under the All progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for the second term at the just concluded state election also spoke on the need for more effort to be made on educating the electorate on the importance of voting.

The law maker, who is the chairman House Commitee on Business and Ethics said Nigeria’s democracy is still growing and more effort needs to be done in sensitizing the masses.

According to him, the electorate really needs to understand the importance of election. ‘In my own assessment, the electorates have not truly come into full realization on the importance of election. They still see it as the usual going out to vote.

“Many people still vote because of what they stand to gain. There is need for us to go into more political education. The masses need more awareness. This will make them to start voting people that will be answerable and who will represent them effectively- someone that will be accountable and they will be proud of; someone that will give them listening ears and they will have access to and not someone that is desperate for power who will lord over them.

Udemadu, who is also a lawyer added that ‘Politics is not all about being in position. It is all about representation. Any mandate one is holding is for the people (The electorate).

Political observers in the state have described the Ihiala 1 representative at the hallowed chambers as a principled, humble and gentle politician and in reacting to these, he said, “I am not a saint. There are still good politicians in Anambra and Nigeria.

Where there is good, there is also evil. I am only trying to live my life. The few years I spent in the seminary was the formation stage. The seminary life has a way of preparing people apart from the education. It also has the formative aspect of it.

‘The seminary formed my thinking, courage, thoughts and my opinion. When you know all these things, it enables you to know how to carry yourself, how you relate with people, how you see and discourse issues and what leadership is all about.

‘For one to be a leader, you must posess all these things. I try as much as I can to live my life in a way that would not hurt anybody. Life does not end in politics or in the House of Assembly. I am mindful of the fact that people were here before me and people will still come after me and bearing these in mind enamble me to mind the kind of life i live.

‘I must make sure that what am doing here is something that will reflect positively to Ndi-Anambra. I will continue to do my best so that at the end of the day, it will be appreciated before God and man.

Speaking on the way forward for Anambra politics, the legislator said “Anambra politics is moving forward. APGA has come to stay in Anambra because of the kind of leadership we have led by Governor Willie Obiano, the national leader and chairman Board of Trustees (BoT)

‘Obiano is doing everything to make sure that APGA is moving. Even though the honourable members who were under APGA dropped because of how tough the election was, it is still a plus to the party and Ndi Anambra”

Udemadu who spoke extensively, revealed how the number one citizen of the state has been a source of inspiration to him.” I am one of the beneficiaries of the governor. He played a very vital role to ensure that we came out victorious at the polls.

His encouragement and support when the storm was all over me is something i will not forget. Obiano keep telling me to be calm, don’t panic and to be focused.

“Apart from God in heaven, the governor is the one always giving me courage. He consoled me with his experiences during his second tenure and I learnt a lot from it.

“Wife of the Governor Ebelechukwu Obiano always played a motherly role.I pray that God in his infinite mercy will help all of us in Anambra and take this state to a peaceful path so that all the good works will reflect in the life of all ndi Anambra.”
