IDOL worship has remained one of the cardinal sins which attracts God’s wrath on worshipers.

For the Umuawulu Community in Awka South Local Government Area, the practice is found to be on the increase, particularly among the younger generation.

Speaking to the press at the Government House Awka, the Chairman of the Planning Committee of the Umuawalu City wide Crusade, Pastor Azubuike Nkala, said the practitioners of the act fell within the age range of  18 to 45 years.                  According to Pastor Nkala, more worrisome is the sad reality that the idol worshipers  are recruiting  more adherents to their fold.

He said the situation had necessitated the community to fashion out ‘Operation Wipe out Idolatry’ slated for June this year.

Pastor Nkala announced that a crusade that will cut across church denominations is being organised to eradicate the evil practice in the community.

The chairman announced that a powerful Evangelist, Rev Dr.Uma Ukpai will visit the community in June to spearhead the battle against principalities and powers in high places.

He said the organizers of the event will reach out to the Roman Catholic authorities and other church denominations to release their parishioners for the crusade.

Pastor Nkala commended the Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Umuawulu , their Anglican counterpart of St Mark’s  Umuawlu and their Pentecostal Church counterpart for their contributions towards evangelism in the community.

The chairman thanked the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, who has embraced the gospel of salvation for his efforts towards promoting evangelism in the community.

He said the group was working assiduously to ensure the success of this year’s Lenten season.
