Four students suspended over rape

AKWA IBOM State University (AKSU) Obio-Akpa, Mkpat Enin has suspended indefinitely the four students who reportedly raped a fellow student of the school.

The suspension was the outcome of the investigation by the Police and the report of the student’s disciplinary committee.

The statement by the Head, Directorate of Information, Public Relation and Protocol,  Akaninyene Ibanga, disclosed that letters to the disciplinary effect was authorised by the Vice Chancellor have been dispatched to the students concerned.

The students whose names were given as Akpan Udeme Matthew, Essien Godwin Fidelis, Bassey Joseph and Bassey Godspower Columbus are studying in Obio Akpa campus of the university.

The statement reads “Be informed that the Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University has taken appropriate action against the four students who have recently been involved in rape cases and hereby causing embarrassment to the university community.

The statement said security report received by the school showed that the four students allegedly raped and severe body harm to a female student of the Department of Performing Arts and Mass Communication.

The letter of suspension of the affected students was reportedly issued on the  April 8, 2019 and signed by the Registrar, Mr. John Udo.
