Fr. Mbaka urges FG to improve police welfare

REV Fr Ejike Mbaka of Adoration Ministry, Emene, Enugu, Enugu State has urged the federal government to adequately equip police and ensure that their condition is highly improved for efficient services to the people.

He made this appeal while assisting the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Dandaura Mustapha to decorate some newly promoted officers of the police, including (SP) Fabian Iloabanafor who incidentally is a good friend to Mbaka.

The  priest commended  President Muhammed Buhari and Police Service Commission for the improvement so far and noted that the job of the officers and men of the police was hectic.

According to him, the police are faced with crucial problem of equipment, adding that some hoodlums, kidnappers, criminals use sophisticated weapons and there should be profound need for government to equip them well.

“They need to undergo training and retraining on the use of equipment and trending method of policing that meet the international standard because they face great security challenges; he stated.

He regretted the idea of politicians using the police during elections, stressing that after elections they are dumped

“I want to remind police officers that their duty is to maintain order and peace; save lives and property and enforce laws. They should not take lives of people they are supposed to protect.

The commissioner of police, who was represented at the occasion by the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Chris Owolabi, expressed gratitude to the Acting Inspector of Police, Adamu Mohammed and Police Service Commission for ensuring that the promotion was effected.

He also urged the officers of the police who were promoted to ensure that they use  their new positions to promote and project the image of the police to the admiration of people they are to protect, noting that it would not go well for them if they use it for humiliation and intimidation of Junior officers and civilians they are to serve.

According to him: “I strongly believe that this promotion will spur all of you to working assiduously to ensure security of lives and property. No doubt, you deserve the promotion based on your performance. I wish you all good luck in your endeavors,” he stated.

Highlight of the event was the decoration of the promoted officers by DCP Operation, Mike Okoli .
