ANAMBRA State Government has pledged the sum of N5m to anybody that will provide useful information on the killing of the President General of Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU), Chief Tony Frank Igboka, in the evening of Tuesday at Oye Market, Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area, shortly after he had a dinner in a nearby restaurant.

A release signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C.Don stated that Governor Obiano had directed security operatives – the Department of State Security, intelligence officers in the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Navy as well as the Nigerian Security and Defence Corps to join the Nigeria Police Force to redouble their efforts to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

“I urged you to reenact the same level of enthusiasm and competence exhibited in the arrest of Ikechukwu Udensi, two weeks ago was the most wanted murder suspect in Anambra State, immediately he entered the state to collect illegal revenues. “You have to display the same commitment and competence this time in tracing the killers of Chief Igboka, who was also a former Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area,” he stated

“It is a shame that the killing of Chief Igboka should take place in the week leading to Easter when men and women of goodwill throughout the world are reconciling themselves with God and fellow human beings”, Governor Obiano said. “His father, Sir Vincent Igboka, a distinguished papal knight, was a great Christian missionary who devoted his whole being to the spread of the Good News. He worked in such a way that he is being considered for canonization in some quarters”.

Governor Obiano emphasized that no stone will be left unturned in the effort to make Anambra remain the safest and most peaceful state in Nigeria. “Anyone who thinks that he can spill the blood of an innocent Anambra person and go scot-free is living in a fool’s paradise”, he declared. “All the persons who have in the last five years attempted to spill blood in the state have been caught up by the long arms of the law. Chief Igboka’s killers cannot be different”.

It could be recalled that the PG was reportedly shot dead by four gunmen inside his private car and immediately took to their heels from the scene.

The ugly development which occurred at about 7.30pm threw the community and environs in confusion, as reasons behind the killing could not be ascertained. He was a former Chief Whip, Chairman, House Committee on Security in Anambra State Assembly and PDP state chairman

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the incident, said that investigations into the killing has commenced.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Nkem, Okeke who condoled the family, described his death as a sad day for Nimo community and Anambra State at large.

According to him,”the governor is really upset and has given directives to the Commissioner of Police to fish out the perpetrators of this terrible act. We can’t have something like this happening in our state now, not with the effort we have made in enforcing security of lives and property in the state” Okeke lamented.

He said that he believes the perpetrators of this horrible death will be caught and brought to justice sooner than later. He further urged them to take heart and hold on to God, who would definitely see them through in this trying time.

Contributing, Pete Ibida, representing Njikoka II Constituency, said the demise is a colossal tragedy and very unfortunate.

“It’s something that has made the entire Anambra State restless, the entire Nimo community has been besieging his residence to mourn and sympathize with the family. We encourage them to take heart and remain prayerful because everyone will die one day. We only pray that we depart in a way that will please God” Ibida prayed.
