Old boys propose to build staff quarters


IT WAS a mixture of pomp, pageantry and nostalgia as the ‘Old Boys’ of the Oraukwu Grammar School in Idemili North, LGA of Anambra State celebrated their Diamond Jubilee  in which they proposed to build a multi-million naira two storey staff quarters amidst other projects as  means of giving back to their alma mater.

In his speech, the president of old boys association, Vincent Ananti eulogized the virtues of discipline and hard work which the pioneer management enshrined in the school that molded the character students.

Ananti called on the old boys to continue to support the school, thanking them for undertaking other projects both individually  and collectively.

Another old boy, Justice Okechukwu Okeke reminded the audience of the thorough attitude of the pioneer principal, Mr. Hezekiah D Chiwuzie who was chief examiner for English language in the entire West Africa.

On his part, Chief Obiora Nzewi charged students to embrace hard work and avoid get rich quick syndrome, saying that hard work pays because many of them made it through hard work and  not malpractice.

The national Vice President, old boys and Best Diamond Awardee, Dr. Obiora Chukwuka said he rebuilt the ‘Enemuo House hostel’ from foundation to finish as a means of identifying with his alma mater.

Sir Chibueze Patrick who rebuilt Ekpunobi House hostel and procured 100 double decked beds for students said that the good morals imparted by their teachers brought them to lime light.

Jubilee occasion Chairman, Chief Charles Odunukwe also called on State government to continue investing in education, saying that education was key to human and societal development.

“Labs should be equipped like in our days. Government should invest more in education. Students should shun social vices and face education squarely. It is the foundation of life.

Commissioning the Enemuo House Hostel, House of Assembly member, representing Idemili South, Chuka Ezenwunne  called on well to do Anambra indigenes to think home and emulate Dr. Obiora Chukwuka by investing in different sectors.

The school Principal, Rev Canon Onwueme, thanked the old boys  for their immense contributions which included: perimeter fencing, completed staff quarters, white boards, payment of PTA teachers, lockers, hostels, among other things.
