Govt pardons 10 prison inmates

ANAMBRA State Government has granted 10 prisoners serving in the state’s prisons custody reprieve and unconditional pardon.

The state government as part of its activities that marked Easter celebration on April 21, 2019 granted clemence to 10 selected prisoners who were on various sentences in the state’s prisons.

According to press release from the Attorney General’s office made available to National Light newspapers, through the Ministry of Information, the 10 prisoners were selected from a list of 205 convicts after a thorough consideration of circumstances surrounding their detention by the state Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

The report shows that out of the 10 prisoners that received the state pardon, one person was from Awka prison, two  were from Onitsha prison, six were from Nnewi and one other from Aguata prisons respectively.

Among the considerations for their release as contained in the report were; having only six months remaining in their full prison terms, health state of inmates, age of inmates and good records of inmates who had done half term of their sentence or served 10 years and above.
