Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State was also elected Deputy Chairman of the forum.

While Fayemi nominated for the position by Gov Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State and seconded by the Gov Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Tambuwal on his part was nominated by Gov Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State and seconded by his Ondo State counterpart, Romiti Akeredolu.

It was learnt that the election of Fayemi and Tambuwal followed a deal struck from some horse trading among governors of All Progressives Congress (APC) and their counterparts on People’s Democratic Party (PDP) tickets.

Fayemi’s tenure in office is expected to start this June 2019 and end in 2021.

Making his acceptance speech, Fayemi said he and his deputy were happy with their emergence through consensus, promising to build on the string of successes which the forum has garnered over the years starting from the tenure of former governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Adamu.
