Presidential Election Petition Tribunal: Bulkachuwa quits



FINALLY, the President of Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has quit the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Justice Bulkachuwa recused herself from the tribunal despite a ruling of the panel that rejected an application by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) demanding her withdrawal on grounds of conflict of interest and likelihood of bias.

According to PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the fact that Bulkachuwa is married to a senator elected on All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket disqualifies her from not only the chairmanship but also her membership of the tribunal.

However, Bulkachuwa said she did not withdraw from the tribunal on the bases of the PDP petition but because of public perception.
