Enugwu-ukwu PG, others speak on community devp

THE President General of the Enugu-Ukwu community, Boniface Nkwuaku has expressed appreciation over the giant strides recorded by the Governor Willie Obiano administration in the state.

Mr. Nkwuaku who spoke at a meeting of some Enugu-Ukwu community leaders in Enugu Ukwu, noted that through his N20 million choose-yourself-project initiative for all communities in the state, the community has effectively utilised the first and second phases of the grant in the execution of its ultra-modern civic centre.

According to the president general, the community will soon embark on the execution of the third phase of the choose yourself project initiative as soon as all logistics are put in place.

He commended the state government for the construction of the Nkwo Enugu Ukwu Road linking the Enugu-Onitsha expressway which has eased the flow of traffic in the community.

Mr. Nkwuaku however requested the state government to ensure the rehabilitation of the Enugu-Ukwu – Nise junction link road to ensure the smooth movement of commuters plying the route.

During the meeting, the traditional defense minister of the community, Tony Okeke confirmed the understanding between the Nigerian Police and the Enugu Ukwu vigilante in combating crime.

According to Chief Okoye, the vigilante in the community should be provided with all the logistic support to function most effectively.

On his part, a former president general of the Enugu Ukwu community, Chris Okoye called for the empowerment and the constitutional recognition of the fourth tier of government to enhance grass root development.

According to Okoye, the local vigilante groups should be legitimised constitutionally to locally operate effectively.

He commended the traditional ruler of Enugu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpe for running an inclusive government which has enhanced development in the community.
