Plant trees for healthy living – Atogu

MANAGING Director, Leisure Parks and Street Beautification Agency, Ify Atogu has emphasized the importance of ornamental trees and flowers to healthy living.

Lady Atogu, who spoke in Awka while planting ornamental trees around her office to give the surrounding a beautiful look remarked that they are critical to human existence as they release natural fresh air, check erosion and beautify homes and surroundings.

She pointed out that it was in realization of the great value of trees and flowers to life that Governor Obiano set up the state Leisure Parks and Street Beautification Agency to make Anambra greener, beautiful and quite attractive to tourists, adding that Obiano’s value driven leadership and development-oriented administration has enhanced the standard of living of the people and gave a boost to their joy through robust programmes and policies.

While condemning the practice whereby some people indulge in indiscriminate felling of trees, she advised ‘ndi Anambra’ to plant trees and flowers in their homes, around their offices and even by the road sides for mankind to benefit from fresh and unpolluted air.

Lady Atogu commended the United Nations (UN) for recognising the importance of trees to human existence by declaring June 10 every year” World Tree-Planting Day .

She disclosed that Governor Obiano will commemorate the event when he officially performs this year’s tree-planting.

She urged staff of the agency to be prepared for work, stressing that the Obiano-led administration is committed to seeing Anambra greener ,beautiful, and the people happy.

Lady Atogu also admonished them to shun indolence, truancy and lateness to duty, calling on the youth to avail themselves of the job opportunities provided by the governor in skill acquisition programmes and ‘Anambra One Youth One Skill Initiative’.
