A FEDERAL Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja-based taxi driver is in police net after he was caught while allegedly attempting to kidnap 10 children, aged between 12 and 18 years.

The suspect, whose name was given as Kenneth Edet, 25, was arraigned before a Grade I Area Court in Mpape, Abuja, yesterday, over one-count charge of abduction punishable under Section 272 of the Penal Code.

According to Prosecution Counsel, Edwin Ochayi, Edet was reported at Mpape Police Station on June 22 after he was apprehended at a burial ground in Mashafa Village by some people who heard strange sounds coming from his car.

But Edet pleaded not guilty before the judge, Salihu Ibrahim, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety each in like sum, and adjourned the case until July 24 for hearing.

Similarly, a Magistrate’s Court in Igede-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, yesterday, sentenced a 70-year-old man, Adeyeye Olorunyomi, and his two sons to six months imprisonment for conspiring to commit theft and other felonies.

The septuagenarian and his two sons, Akindele Olorunyomi, 30 and Ojo Olorunyomi,  36, were convicted on a six-count charge of forcibly entering a farm belonging to one Oluwadare Olowookere and Adekunle Olowookere.

The offences contravened Section 516, 81, 390, 356 (2), 249(d) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

According to the police prosecutor, Sgt. Olubu Apata, the offence was committed in the town between February 25 and 27 during which the convicts stole three timbers valued at N100,000 belonging to the complainants.
