Awka Diocese to celebrate Fr. Attansey’s 40th priestly ordination on Sunday



AWKA Catholic Diocese will on Sunday, roll out their drums to celebrate the 40th priestly ordination of Rev. Fr.  (Dr) Mathew Attansey.

Ordained priest on the 30th of June, 1979 by the then bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend (Dr) Albert Obiefuna of the blessed memory, Father Attansey was born on the 21st of September, 1948.

A native of Isuaniocha in Awka North Local Government Area, his journey after ordination started at St. John the Baptist Parish, Ezinifite, from where he performed his priestly duties in Agulu and other parishes.

In 1998, Fr. Attansey travelled to North Dakota in the United States of America where he sojourned for six years as a priest.

While in America, he secured his doctorate degree and license as a professional hunter.

Speaking to the press on his vocation, Father Attansey, a one time President General of the Isunaiocha Town Union and one of the founding fathers of ASATU, said he has no regrets being a priest.

As the incumbent cathedral Administration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka, father Attansey said he was available to attend to his priestly duties.
