28-year–old man sentenced to death by hanging

A 28-year old palm fruit harvester, Utibe Akpan Umanah has been sentenced to death for murder. Umannah, a native of Ntak Ikot Akpan in Essien Udim Local Government in ntak ikot akpan was condemned to death by the High Court sitting in Ikot Ekpene for killing his friends Aniekere Samuel Udoudo and Udoette Maffiong, both indigenes of Ntak Ikot Akpan by Machetting them to death during a football match in the village on August 30, 2012.

Umanah, who had confessed that he killed his friends, said he was sent by God and Angels to eliminate them. The condemned murderer who did not show any sign of remorse told the court that he informed his community about the directive, adding that when the village refused to carry out his instruction, he did it himself by picking up a machete to the primary school venue of the football encounter and macheted them to death one after the other.

In his judgment, Jutice Ntong ruled that the convict does not deserve any mercy, saying that the angels who sent him to kill his friends are waiting for him at the gate to possibly glorify or vilify him.

The judge said justice is for all and must be done to the accused, the victims crying from their graves for vengeance and to the State, whose citizens were unjustly killed in cold blood.
