Anambra intensifies war against fake revenue collectors



THREE suspected fake revenue collectors were on Monday, paraded at the Anambra  State secretariat complex Awka .

  The suspects were  apprehended at different locations of the state illegally collecting revenues .

One of the suspects ,Nathaniel Ogonna, who hails from Umuara, Ezza-North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State said he was an employee of one Sir James Umezuruoha of Umuoru Uga in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, who runs a public convenience facility in Oye-Uga Market, Uga . He said he was arrested for illegal collection of government revenue .

Another suspect who identified himself as Stephen Umenze said he was formerly working as a toll collector at bicycle parts, Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State but has stopped .. He explained that he could not fathom  why he was arrested for illegal toll collection because he has stopped the trade long ago .

Umenze, who had a cash receipt of 16th June , 2019 in his hand as at the time of the parade , said he was working for one Emma Onyegbunam who alerted him to stop to avoid being nabbed by government task force in the markets but luck failed him .

Okwudiri Ezeoru , a native of Nnobi in Idemili-South council area of Anambra State said he was in his shop at Ogbunike Bicycle Spare Parts Market in the company of his  wife and child when government task force pounced on him and got him arrested for what he could not explain as at the time of the parade .

The suspect said even when he made efforts to inquire why he was arrested , the government task force allegedly beat him and bundled him to the secretariat . He said  that he was not involved in illegal revenue collection in the market .

Meanwhile,  the State commissioner for Trade , Commerce and Market Development,  Dr. Christian Madubuko, who conducted the parade at the secretariat complex , Awka , said the war against fake revenue collectors will not end in Anambra until the criminal elements were completely wiped out .

Madubuko explained that countless unauthorized revenue agents have been jailed for diversion of government funds . He said  that the three suspected illegal revenue agents will go to jail .

The commissioner also disclosed that government has set up secret call centers in the markets where prompt information can be shared on the activities of fake revenue collectors .
