Anambra reassures of polio eradication

GOVERNOR Obiano has promised to do all in his power to ensure polio is eradicated from the state and the entire African continent.

Represented by his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, during the inaugural meeting of Anambra State Task Force on Immunization at Government House Awka, the governor  urged them to endeavor to do their own part to get the certification that the country needs.

Earlier in an address, Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHDA), Chioma Ezenyimulu, said Anambra took first position in immunization last year, because they have always heeded to national programs to make sure the state is polio and disease free and that  Anambra has been polio free for 13 years.

Ezenyimulu also said they were planning an immunization campaign from July 13th-16. This approach is a strategic plan to administer Potent Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), together with other routine immunization antigens.

“Anambra State Government is fully committed to this program and will make sure that no child is missed in the state. The previous National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) in the state has witnessed sporadic non-compliance, and rejection in some households and private schools.

She therefore called  on parents, caregivers, and school administrators to present their children for immunization..

World Health Organization, represented by the Secretary, Anambra State, Dr. Chukwumuanya Igboekwu, said Nigeria had made tremendous progress towards polio eradication.
