Metallurgical Institute gears up for tech devp



METALLURGICAL Training Institute, Onitsha, has continued to  record achievements despite multiple challenges confronting it..

  According to the Director, Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha, Rev. Bode Fakuade, “the present administration, under President Mohammadu Buhari is keen on improving the steel sector of the country with recent steps so far taken to settle all issues militating against the smooth running of Ajaokuta Steel.

He noted that recent steps taken by the federal government in improving the fortunes of the steel sector would eventually have a positive effect on Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha.

The chief executive of the institute, who spoke to our correspondent in an interview in Onitsha, explained that though most of the ministers who had served in the Mines and Steel Development Ministry of the country had achieved enviable grounds, the immediate past Minister of Mines and Steel Development who is incidentally the present Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, took prominent steps in revitalizing the MTI for improved performance.

Rev. Fakuade observed that with the current and gradual attention being given to the institute in the area of equipment repairs and replacement, including the introduction of ultra-modern equipment into the laboratories of the institute’s departments for practical training of her students, the sky would be the limit of the institute in skilled technical man-power development.

Our correspondent gathered from investigations that with the level of training of the students in the institute, more funding is needed to enable the institute realise her noble objectives in the training of technical man power for the country.
