DEPARTMENT of Pediatrics and Surgery, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, as well as the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Nkpor, have received accreditation by the West Africa Postgraduate Medical College and Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria respectively.

This was contained in a report presented to the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Basil Nwankwo

It could be recalled that the hospital was denied basic accreditations by the medical and dental representative over the years until Gov Obiano approved necessary funds which were judiciously utilized to produce the first set of medical doctors three years ago.

The CMD while appreciating the governor for his continuous financial release and fatherly support to upgrading the teaching hospital, noted that the accreditation will enable the hospital train postgraduate doctors in the field.

Dr. Nwankwo further said that the hospital will as a matter of keeping to its plan of phased accreditations, be seeking for further accreditation in the Department of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine as well as re- accreditation of the Obsteristics and Gynaecology Departments.
