GOVERNOR of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has presented a ‘Staff of Office’ to the Onogie of Ohordua Kingdom, Stephen Oribhabor Ailuojierior last Saturday at his palace in Ohordua Community, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State

The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Jimoh Ijegbai stated that the administration has increased allocation to the traditional rulers in the state by directing all councils in addition to the five per cent statutory allocation due to them, pay another five percent of other revenues as grant to traditional rulers, making a total of 10 percent.

He urged the people of Ohordua to rally round their monarch to enable him discharge his duties as the clan head, just as he appealed to the monarch to use his exalted office to chart for peace, order and development at all times.

He equally advised the monarch and subjects of Ohordua kingdom to be vigilant and report any strange and suspicious character in their midst to law enforcement agencies, to reduce crime and engender peace in the community.

The Chairman of Esan South East Local Government Council, Victor Emuakhagbon, on the other hand, appreciated the governor for honouring the community with presentation of the Staff of Office.

He also used the opportunity to appeal to the governor to urgently address the excesses of some criminal herdsmen whose activities had claimed many lives, and caused many people to abandon their farms.

In what looked like an acceptance speech read on behalf of the community by Prof. Sylvanus Ebohon, they expressed gratitude to the governor for the presentation of staff of Office to their monarch, and also called on the governor to interface with his Delta State counterpart to stop the insecurity threat arising from boundary dispute between Ohordua Community and Ugbodu Community of Delta State which has lingered for a while.
