In Anambra, police nab robbers, rapists



THE recent clampdown on criminal elements in Anambra State has started yielding its set objectives.

In this direction, about four men suspected to be armed robbers were picked up in different parts of Oba in Idemmili South Local Government Area by a team of Special Anti-Robbery

Squad (SARS) operatives of Anambra Police Command.

The suspects identified as one Chinedu Umerah, 18, Uboh Oluebube, 16, Obute Chinwendu, 17, and Chukwuma Amazu, 18, were alleged to be terrorising residents of the town with robbery raids and attacks. They were also alleged to have raped some of their victims at gun point in their hideouts, including a 14-year-old girl who they abducted and drugged.

Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Anambra Police Command, Haruna Mohammed said the suspects have confessed to have been carrying out those attacks as members of Junior Vikings, adding that investigation has since commenced.

Haruna also disclosed that another armed robbery suspect was arrested at Oba in a different operation.

Giving his name as one Victor Okafor, 26, the police spokesman equally disclosed that the suspect specialises in dispossessing innocent tricycles operators of their vehicles within Oba and environs.

According to the PPRO, one unregistered tricycle suspected to have been stolen was recovered from Okafor, adding that he would be charged to court soon.
