Match Preview: Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

DESPITE Spurs their lack of silverware to show for their efforts, it was an undeniably successful season for Spurs. They clinched a Premier League top 4 finish for the 4th successive season and made it all the way to the Champions League Final. They did all of this having not signed a single player for 18 months. Now, Mauricio Pocchettino will be looking to take this squad a step further and get their hands on some trophies.

Preseason has been a mixed bag for Pocchettino’s men, with victories against Juventus and Real Madrid interspersed with defeat to Manchester United and draws against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. However, the more exciting news out of North London is the signing of highly rated midfielder Tanguy Ndombele for £54m, and there is still the possibility of further arrivals before the transfer window closes.

Aston Villa’s summer has been somewhat different to Spurs’. They haven’t pulled any punches after their promotion last term, shelling out well over £100m on new players and breaking the £20m barrier with both Wesley and Tyrone Mings. It brings back memories of Fulham’s summer spending this time last year, and we all know how that worked out for them.

The Villains have enjoyed a run of 5 preseason wins on the bounce as well, although it has to be said that victories over Minnesota United, Shrewsbury, Walsall, and Charlton can hardly be considered a barometer for their top flight potential.

The Villians will still not match the firepower of the spurs. We are confident that Tottenham will be victorious in the encounter.
