WORK is going on at advanced stage for completion of an ultramodern, purpose-built crèche at Chief Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.

Speaking at an unscheduled visit to the project site, Anambra State Head of Service, Harry Udu, stated that the facility is part of measures by government to give further boost to the on-going breast feeding campaign among nursing mothers in Anambra State.

According to him, government is providing the facility in response to previous plight of civil servants who, as nursing mothers, were caught up with choosing to properly breast feed their infants or breach civil service rules on requisite mandatory attendance.

Udu expressed confidence that when completed, having day care and nursery school around will ease untold stress which nursing mothers went through in caring for their babies during work hours, especially during long vacation, adding that just little resources would be required to stock consumables regularly for upkeep of children and maintenance of the environment.

He further disclosed that officers of Ministry of Health and other healthcare agencies, as well as pre-nursery school teachers from Ministry of Education will be on hand to render specialised services at the facility when it kicks off operation.

While cautioning nursing mothers that come to office with their children to ensure that they do not constitute nuisance around the premises, especially during the ongoing long vacation, Udu instructed that a circular would soon be passed to ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) over administration of the crèche.
